More than just a sporting competition, this festival is a rite of passage for young Kabyle men. An age-old tradition, the Evala embodies the courage, strength and resilience of a people deeply attached to their roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Ritual of Initiation into Adulthood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Evala is above all an initiation ceremony marking the transition of young Kaby\u00e9 men to adulthood. Each village prepares its wrestlers by organising ceremonies and rituals to bless them before the competition. Traditional dances, songs and stories of yesteryear round off this great festival, which brings together not only the Kaby\u00e9s, but also Togolese from all over the country, as well as members of the diaspora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evala is a special time for passing on the ancestral values and wisdom of the elders to the younger generations. As well as the physical trials, the young men are given a moral and spiritual education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An event that reaches beyond borders<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year, the festival attracts thousands of visitors, both local and international. Politicians, businessmen, diplomats and tourists flock to Kara to attend this unique event. It's also an opportunity to discover the cultural riches of northern Togo, with its mountainous landscapes and age-old traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Evala: More than a Struggle, a Social Communion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Evala is not just a sport or a ritual of passage.
